William Lang, M.D.

William “Bill” Lang grew up in New Orleans and after a few misadventures, graduated from the University of California, Berkeley (B.A.) in 1970 and Boston University of Medicine (M.D.) in 1977.

Bill practiced Internal Medicine for 15 years in San Francisco while living across the Golden Gate Bridge in Mill Valley (altogether for 42 years). During that time he sat on the Board of Directors of the San Francisco AIDS Foundation and conducted epidemiologic and clinical research in AIDS for approximately 5 years. He then left medical practice to work in biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies conducting clinical research in new drug development for breast and colon cancer and rare diseases as Senior Director of Clinical Research and as a consultant until retirement in 2020. He still does some occasional consulting work.

Since then, although he has given up his longtime and passionate avocation of cycling, Bill has resumed a lifetime love of gardening and discovered a new passion (and received significant training in) aesthetic pruning; and he has acquired a tractor (“which has changed my life!”) so he can now bush hog our meadow and tame the wilds of the corner of Martinsville he shares with his wife, Maggie.

Maggie and Bill and their three kids have been coming to Tenants Harbor for summers for 40+ years. They are now thrilled to have moved here permanently last April to further enjoy old friendships and start new ones. And live in Maine!

Bill was elected to the Jackson Memorial Library Board of Directors in 2025.

She worked as a horticulturist for a large California developer overseeing landscape installation and maintenance in four states. Later, she worked for a Sacramento landscape architect before becoming a freelance residential garden designer.

Anne volunteered in several organizations at her daughter’s schools in Sacramento. She was on the board at the Brookfield School. She also served on the board of her Neighborhood Association for many years. She was elected to the Jackson Memorial Library Board of Directors in August 2024.
